Dev Anand, one of the biggest and greatest superstars of hindi cinema. His carrer spanned over 6 decades. He introduced many aspects of cinema to Indian audience.

MOTHER INDIA

Mother India was the first Indian movie to be nominated for the Academy Awards. Many people don't know, that it was also India's first ever submission to the Academy Awards.

MUGHAL-E-AZAM

It took 16 years to complete the legendary Indian film, Mughal-e-Azam. It was the most expensive Indian film of that time. It costed around 1.5 crores at that time.

GANGS OF WASSEYPUR

Director Anurag Kashyap showed how deeply rooted stories should be made, through his cult classic Gangs of Wasseypur. This is a flawless masterpiece.

In 1983, BHANU ATHAIYA became the first Indian individual to win an Academy Award for designing the costumes for GANDHI.

INDIANS AT THE OSCARS

In 2023, M. M. Keeravani and Chandrabose won the Oscar for best Original song, Naatu Naatu at the 95th Academy Awards. Keeravani composed the music and Chandrabose penned the lyrics for the high-energy song. Also, this year's best Short Documentary Award also won by Indian filmmakers Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga, for their film The Elephant WhisperersElephant Whisperers.

Till now, three Indian films have been nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category, namely Mother India (1958), Salaam Bombay (1989) and Lagaan (2002). Mother India was also India's first ever submission to the prestigious awards. This year (2023), Shaunak sen and Aman mann's film, All That Breathes also got nominated for the Best Documentary Feature Film category.

In 2009, at the 81st Academy Awards, composer A. R. Rahman won two Oscars, for the movie Slumdog Millionaire. One was for the Best Original Score and the other was shared with the lyricist Gulzar for Best Original Song (Jai Ho). Also, Resul Pookutty won the oscar for Best Sound Mixing for the same movie, Slumdog Millionaire.
